girls fighting

the girl taking the punch here is a national champ and eventually won the bout. a bit different from my usual posts, but i enjoyed trying to capture the action on the night, first time to shoot boxing - the biggest problem was the light, or lack of it, if any of you've shot in or frequent small gyms and sports halls you'll know what i mean...

I think that the title belittles the women. Two powerful women, who've clearly been seduced by the prospect of fame and fortune from boxing, taking on the world at a game that is normally the realm of men, clearly with fighting abilities that would defeat most men, and you describe them as girls? I suspect you'd describe "The Rumble in the Jungle" as two boys having a little scrap wouldn't you?

@Ruptured Spleen: hi ruptured spleen, thanks for your comment .. as for the title, it certainly isn't meant to belittle anyone. the people in the photo are probably in their late teens and while they are certainly good fighters i don't think they've been seduced by the prospect of fame and fortune held out by the fight business, and i'm not sure why you assume they have. i think boxing is a legitimate sport for both sexes, and can be pursued as an end in itself - not necessarily with a view to professionalism. this was taken at an amateur event, and there was certainly no money involved. the title was actually meant a little tongue in cheek, but it's also true that we tend to use the word girls when we mean women with no disrespect intended and in that sense it's just a description of the content .. it's not intended to offend anybody. cheers
